Active virus cases increase to 182

(CNS): The Cayman Islands have recorded 300 positive cases of COVID-19 in just over a month since the virus reemerged in the community on September 8. There are currently 182 active cases of coronavirus among the 1,500 people estimated to be isolated. The total number of positive COVID results recorded to date since the virus arrived here in March 2020 is now 1,011. Chief medical officer Dr John Lee revealed 15 more cases on Wednesday. Only two were travelers due to leave quarantine and the rest were community cases, including eight other children.

While 104 of those active cases show symptoms, no one is hospitalized except for the woman in her 60s who was admitted last month with other health concerns.

The CMO also confirmed the arrival of the rapid test kits, which it said would be deployed first in schools. Details of the regulations surrounding their use and accessibility are expected to be revealed during a press briefing on Thursday.

Health City has also procured lateral flow tests and said when the regulations are rolled out they will make them available to the public at “an affordable price.”

Meanwhile, according to the latest vaccination figures, 687 vulnerable people as well as people over 70 have now received a booster. In the last day, 69 people showed up for their first injection, while 143 others are now fully vaccinated.
