Bison in the lead after day one of the Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State Men’s Golf Team ended Day 1 of the Zach Johnson Invitational at the top of the standings, as the Bison led by two strokes after completing 36 holes at -1 Monday at the Glen Oaks Country Club.

The Bison started the day with a team score of +1 from 285 in the first round, before moving to a -2 of 282 to climb to the top of the standings in the 15-team field. The Bison hold a two-stroke lead over Loyola-Chicago and a three-stroke lead over host Drake heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Brock Winter got off to a good start for the Bison, clocking their best lap of the season to open the event, getting a 67 -4 round. Winter started the day with a birdie on his third hole, then added another birdie on his ninth hole to go to -2. After a bogey, Winter recovered with three birdies on the last six holes of the first round.

Winter would get another round under par in the evening session as he had five birdies and nine pars in the round to shoot a -1 of 70. Winter sits third in the overall standings of 84 golfers. Over the course of two rounds, Winter leads all golfers in the par 4 scoring, shooting -4 on the day. Winter was also -3 on par 5s and is third in the tournament with 10 birdies.

Nate adams was also below par for the Bison in the first round, as he shot a -1 of 70 to open the day. Adams had only one fault on the scorecard in the first round with a double bogey at hole 13. However, Adams had three birdies, including two in the last eight holes to move up the standings and close the first round. in eighth.

Adams would give birdies on two of the first five holes of the second round. After struggling midway through the second round, Adams finished strong with two birdies on the last five holes of the day to return to the top 10 as he finished the round with another score of 70 to close the day at -2. He entered the last day in sixth in the general classification.

The second fastest lap of the day for the Bison came from Josh galvin, who got a -2 of 69 in the second round on Monday. After a 77 in the first round, Galvin had four birdies in the second round, including back-to-back birdies to end the day. Galvin will enter the final round tied with his teammate Jack johnson in 26e overall at +4.

Johnson had straight 73 cards on day one. Johnson was tied for fourth in par-5 scorers and also carded one of two Eagles of the day for the Bison.

The Bison will finish the Zach Johnson Invitational on Tuesday with the third and final round at the Glen Oaks Country Club. The final round is expected to start at 9 a.m.
