Funds have hundreds of millions of ‘untraceable’ pensioners in the pot

For example, the ABP does not know the contact details of 19,000 retirees, in part because they have moved abroad. There are still 300 million euros ready for them. On average, this represents around 16,000 euros per person. For example, these are people who worked as a student aide during their studies and who therefore received a pension, but who did not know that they were entitled to benefits.

ABP, the largest pension fund in the Netherlands, says it is doing its best to find people. “Employees are saving up for this,” a spokeswoman said after being told by telegraph† Among other things, ABP deploys employees to track people. A spokeswoman for an outside agency had previously found 2,000 participants. “People who are found are very happy.”
