HIGH VALUE – The top-ranked Oklahoma men’s golf team used rounds of 273 (-7) and 290 (+10) to clinch second place with Wake Forest on Monday at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational.
Jaxon dowell paved the way for his college debut, signing for a 67 (-3) and 72 (+2), good for a fourth piece. Redshirt freshman is joined by senior redshirt Chris Gotterup, of which 68 (-2) and 71 (+1) tied him with the rookie red shirt after 36 holes at Colonial Country Club from 7,204 yards by 70.
As a team, the Sooners are two strokes behind first Pepperdine (+1, 561) and are five strokes ahead of fifth before Tuesday’s final round.
Dowell opened his day with a first round of 67, where he played the last 16 holes at 4 under par to enter, followed by a second round of 72 (+2). Edmond’s product, Okla., Made the rounds in the second round as the solo leader and edged Wake Forest’s Michael Brennan (1, -6) by five shots.
Joining Dowell in the top five was Chris Gotterup (T4, -1), who is on track to register his second top five in as many tries. The All-American had rounds of 68 (-2) and 71 (+1) on Monday and shares fourth place with the rookie redshirt.
Logan McAllister ended his day with a birdie in his second round to give a pair of 71 (+1) and ranks 18th with 18 holes left. The senior was once again stable for OU, posting 24 starts that day,
Drew goodman (T31, +5) took the lead Monday at Colonial, registering three straight birdies to open his week en route to a 67 (-3) in the morning. But a 78 (+8) in the afternoon wave pushed the freshman to tie for 31st.
Completing the Oklahoma lineup was Patrick welch (72, +15).
The Sooners will look to defend their 2021 tag team title at Colonial Tuesday and claim the 45th all-time win on the schedule. OR starts at 9:30 am CT with Pepperdine and Wake Forest, the last group leaving at 10:06 am. The live score will be available on Golfstat.
